Is Hyperliquid available in the United States?
Verified against Hyperliquid Terms of Use · by Hyperliquid Academy
The answer
No. Not with a workaround, not with a verification step, not with a different browser.
The Terms of Use define restricted persons to include those who reside in, are located in, are incorporated in or have a registered office in the United States of America. Being a restricted person is not a state you can verify your way out of, because nothing is being verified: you are representing that the restriction does not apply to you when you use the interface.
What the restriction actually covers
Worth being precise, because the summaries circulating are looser than the terms.
Residence and location. Living in the United States, or being physically there, is covered.
Incorporation. An entity incorporated or with a registered office there is covered, which catches company accounts as well as individuals.
Citizenship, in the general case. The terms extend to citizens of restricted territories regardless of where those people are located. That is broader than a residence test and it is the part people miss.
Ontario, separately. Canada as a whole is not restricted, but Ontario is named specifically, because its securities regulator has taken a distinct position on crypto derivatives platforms.
Why we do not publish a workaround
Plainly: because it is not in your interest.
The restriction is not a technical wall to be climbed. It is a term of an agreement, and the terms specifically prohibit masking your location. Circumventing it means relying on an agreement you have breached, on a venue where funds and access can be restricted, in a jurisdiction whose regulators are actively interested in this category.
Any site cheerfully explaining how to do it anyway is optimising for its referral commission rather than for you. That includes sites that would earn money from you signing up, which is a category that includes us. We would rather tell you no.
What is genuinely available instead
If you are in the United States, the honest options are regulated venues offering the exposures you were looking for, within the framework that applies to you. Those change as the regulatory picture changes, and what is accurate this month may not be next month, so check current primary sources rather than a guide.
What this site can still be useful for: understanding how perpetual futures, funding rates, liquidation and margin actually work. That knowledge transfers to any venue. Start with funding rates and liquidation mechanics, both of which are venue-agnostic once you strip out the specifics.
If the picture changes
The regulatory position on perpetual futures for US persons has been moving, and a venue’s availability can change with it. We record changes of this kind in the changelog with dates and sources, rather than quietly editing a page. If Hyperliquid’s terms change, that is where it will appear.
Frequently asked questions
Can US residents use Hyperliquid?
No. The Terms of Use name them as restricted persons and the interface is geofenced. There is no verification process that changes this, because the restriction is geographic and contractual rather than identity-based.
Does this apply to US citizens living abroad?
The terms cover citizens of restricted territories regardless of where those citizens are, which is broader than a residence test. If that describes you, read the terms rather than relying on a summary.
Can I use a VPN?
The terms prohibit masking your location, so doing it means making a false representation in the agreement you are relying on. We do not publish methods for it.
Is the HYPE token restricted too?
This page is about access to the exchange. Whether and how a US person can hold the token through other venues is a separate question with its own rules, and it changes; check current sources rather than trusting a guide.
